Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice – HLT40307 (CRICOS 054879J)

This course focuses on relaxation massage and is the entry level for those wishing to commence a career in massage. Upon completion, graduates may register with the Australian Association of Massage Therapists (AAMT). Cert IV in Massage Therapy practise is also the pre requisite unit for the Diploma of Remedial Massage.

A first aid course from an accredited provider must be completed prior to completion of this qualification.

Course Duration
The duration of this course is 15 weeks on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30am until 3.30pm. Night time classes are run on demand.

Upon successful completion of this qualification students will be eligible for a HLT40307 Certificate IV in Massage Practice.

This qualification is assessed by practical, written and oral assessments, case studies and assignments.

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to work in a group environment such as promoting team commitment and co-operation and supporting team members.

Communicately Effectively with Clients/Patients – HLTCOM4A
This unit covers the skills required by practitioners to establish and maintain effective communication with the client/patient throughout all interactions and provide basic counseling as required and as appropriate to facilitate the treatment.

Administer a Practice – HLTCOM5A
This unit describes the skills required to provide administration for a clinical health practice according to the size and scale of the business.

Make Referrals to other Health Care Professionals when appropriate – HLTCOM6A
This unit describes the skills required to arrange referrals to other health care professionals when required.

Use Specific Medical Terminology to Communicate with Clients/Patients, fellow Workers and other Health Care Professionals – HLTCOM8A
This unit covers the skills required to understand and respond to instructions, carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a health care practice, using appropriate practice-specific/medical terminology.

Work Effectively in the Health Industry – HLTHIR1A
This unit covers the introductory skills and knowledge required to work effectively in a healthcare setting with patients, staff, visitors, suppliers and others to meet required work requirements.

Follow the Organisation’s Occupational Health and Safety Policies – HLTHSE1A
This unit covers general OHS requirements according to legislation and codes of practice, including duties and responsibilities for all parties under the general duty of care.

Comply with Infection Control Policies and Procedures – HLTIN1A
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required of workers to understand and comply with infection control guidelines. Policies and procedures may be organizational, industry based and/or legislated.

Work within a Massage Framework – HLTREM1A
This unit describes the skills required to work effectively within a massage framework. Definition of massage, massage principles and techniques are identified, historical development of massage and the major methods of treatment used are identified and described.

Provide the Massage Treatment – HLTREM6A
This unit describes the skills required to administer client/patient basic massage treatment according to the philosophy and practices of a massage therapy framework.

Plan the Massage Treatment – HLTREM7A
This unit describes the skills required to prepare clients/patients for basic massage and negotiate treatment with them.

Apply Massage Assessment Framework – HLTREM8A
This unit covers the skills required to interpret information gathered in the health assessment and make and review accurate assessment for basic massage treatment.

Perform Massage Health Assessment – HLTREM9A
This unit covers the skills required to observe the condition of the client/patient and gather information relevant to the case in order to provide a basic massage.
